Formby Hall
|
| |
Formby Hall is a relatively recent addition to England’s Golfing Coast. Following a £13.2m development, the course features the UK’s first National Residential PGA Academy. Alongside the 18-hole ‘Old Course’ now runs a new par-3 9-hole course.
An excellent base to tour the region, Formby Hall offers facilities including a 4-star boutique hotel, luxury spa, indoor pool and Brasserie.
Established in 1996 the course has already hosted the Challenge Tour and the Seniors’ Tour, part of the ADT Seniors’ Open and is set as a venue for the EuroPro Tour 2009, establishing it as a very competitive course in the region.
As a PGA Academy, Formby Hall employs a team PGA qualified AA professionals, available to golfers for tuition. This can include a purposely designed training programme, multi-angle digital video swing analysis and one-to-one lessons on the 9-hole course or the club’s 72-bay covered and floodlit driving range.
The signature hole ‘Little Venice’, although only a par 3 is a difficult one to master. Teeing off you need clear the 130 yard carry over water with several bunkers to avoid. It’s a must to ensure you have enough club on your shot here, as anything short is water bound. Play the middle of the green as any other line is risky.
Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa proves a challenging addition to the north golfing coast withthe added facilities are unique to other courses in the region.
